Mother's Day Special: Syarlene & Dato' Nik Hasmat

There is a certain light that surrounds Syarlene. Her grace, her gentle presence, and the way she carries herself so effortlessly have made her a familiar face in both the digital space and real-life circles. But as she often says, the woman she is today is a reflection of the woman who raised her. The one whose strength, elegance, and resilience have shaped her from the very beginning.

Her mother, Dato’ Nik Hasmat, is not just the matriarch of the family. She is the heart of it. A woman whose journey embodies quiet endurance, wisdom, and an extraordinary story of survival. Many know Dato’ Nik Hasmat as a figure of poise and influence, but to Syarlene, she is much more than that. She is home. She is the reason behind her strength and the inspiration behind her softness.

This Mother’s Day, Beauté Library and B+ Clinic invited this remarkable mother and daughter to enjoy a moment of calm. Through a shared relaxation treatment and heartfelt conversation, they were given the space to unwind, reflect, and reconnect in the most beautiful way. It was a gentle pause from the rush of daily life and a chance to honour the bond that has carried them through life’s highs and lows.

As they sat side by side, laughter mingled with emotion. But behind the smiles were memories and moments that shaped who they are today.

Have you ever faced the thought of losing your mom?

Syarlene: “Yes definitely, there were two moments in my life when I truly thought I was going to lose my mom. The first was when I was just 11 years old. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to go through open brain surgery. I remember how terrifying everything felt. I was so young but the fear stayed with me. Miraculously she survived. Then in 2014 the tumor came back. She had to undergo another surgery. And once again my mom made it through. She did not just survive. She came out of it even stronger.”

Those near-death moments in 2008 and 2014 became defining turning points in Dato’ Nik Hasmat’s journey. Enduring two major brain surgeries brought her face to face with fragility and from that, an even greater strength was born. She emerged not only with renewed energy for life, but with an unshakeable determination to be there for her children. Her fight was never just for herself. It was for the love she carried, the milestones yet to witness, and the family she refused to leave behind. In her heart, she knew she was the strength her family leaned on and she could not fall. Not yet. Not ever.

What would you want Syarlene to remember, if one day you’re not here?

Dato’ Nik Hasmat: "I know I’m not going to get any younger. 70 is just a few years away, and time is slowly catching up with me. But if you ask me how I want Syarlene to remember me, as my youngest, I think it would be my strength. I’ve always believed that my strength is what defines me. I want her to remember me for that — for how I stood strong, no matter what life threw at me."

Sometimes we forget to say what truly matters. What would you tell your mom right now?

Syarlene took a moment, reflecting deeply on the years that shaped their relationship. There were times when they didn’t always see eye to eye, and she spent much of her youth trying to follow in her mother's footsteps. But now, with a heart full of gratitude, she realizes just how much her mother’s strength, resilience, and unwavering love have shaped her into the woman she is today.

"Mom, I hope you know how much everything you’ve taught me means to me," Syarlene thought to herself. "The lessons you’ve given me, the importance of resilience, the value of love, and the strength to face life's challenges, I will carry them with me forever."

She silently vowed that these lessons would stay with her forever. These were the lessons she intended to pass down to her future children, ensuring that her mother’s legacy would continue to live on, not just in her, but in the generations that follow.

This message was Syarlene’s silent tribute to the woman who had always been there, guiding her with unwavering love, even in the most difficult times.
